I agree with you Jamie. My students have such a hard time memorizing and recalling facts, which is so unfair because they could easily learn how to find and look-up the information they needed. Our school system has adopted a math program that teaches students to use resources such as the number line and hundreds chart to find answers. The problem is that on the standardized testing, they cannot use any of those type resources. How fair is that? Is that really valid? In my opinion, if the students can pick which resource to use and find the right answer with it then they have met that standard. Great point!
