So true. We try to prepare these students for life after high school. We are not expected to have everything memorized. Our students will be more successful knowing where to find the information they are needing and having the skills to do so. Standardized testing is causing teachers to be limited on what they teach, and, in a way, limited to the amount of creativity they can use. My students want to memorize information and then forget it right after the test. They do not see the need to retain it for anything other than the test. I do not know the answer to the testing question, but do feel that burn-out is effecting my students.
